Getting Started

What is FoilNest?

FoilNest is a comprehensive Pokemon card collection management platform that helps collectors organize, grade, trade, and showcase their cards. We combine traditional collecting tools with modern AI technology to provide features like automated card grading, digital binders, marketplace trading, and community engagement.

Is FoilNest free to use?

Yes! FoilNest offers a free tier with access to core features including collection tracking, digital binders, and marketplace browsing. We also offer Pro and Ultimate tiers with additional features like unlimited AI gradings, advanced analytics, and priority support. Check our pricing page for detailed information.

How do I create an account?

Click the 'Sign Up' button in the top right corner and enter your email address. You'll receive a confirmation email to verify your account. Once verified, you can start building your collection, creating binders, and exploring the marketplace immediately.

What Pokemon card sets does FoilNest support?

FoilNest supports all official Pokemon TCG sets from Base Set (1999) to the latest releases. Our database is regularly updated with new sets as they're released. You can track cards from English, Japanese, and other international releases.

Collection Management

How do I add cards to my collection?

Navigate to the 'Collections' page and browse by set. Click on any card to mark it as collected. You can also use the Master Set view to see your overall completion progress, or search for specific cards using the search bar. Each card can be marked with condition, quantity, and variants (normal, reverse holo, first edition, etc.).

Can I track multiple copies of the same card?

Absolutely! When adding a card to your collection, you can specify the quantity you own. This is especially useful for traders who keep duplicates or collectors who own multiple versions (graded, raw, different conditions).

What is the Master Set feature?

The Master Set is a comprehensive view of all Pokemon cards across all sets. It allows you to track your overall collection progress, filter by generation, type, rarity, or artist, and identify gaps in your collection. It's perfect for completionists aiming to collect every card ever made.

Can I organize my collection by custom categories?

Yes! Our digital binder feature lets you create custom collections organized however you like. Create binders for your favorite Pokemon, by generation, by artist, graded cards only, or any other criteria. Each binder can have custom layouts and can be shared with the community.

AI Card Grading

How does AI card grading work?

Our AI card grading system analyzes high-resolution photos of your card's front and back using advanced computer vision and machine learning. It evaluates centering, corners, edges, and surface condition - the same criteria professional grading companies use. The AI provides an overall grade (0.5-10 scale) plus detailed sub-grades for each attribute, along with specific notes about any issues detected.

Is AI grading as accurate as professional grading (PSA, BGS, CGC)?

AI grading provides a reliable preliminary assessment and is excellent for personal collection management and pre-screening cards before professional grading. However, it should not replace professional grading for high-value cards or official authentication. Our AI is trained on thousands of professionally graded cards and typically provides estimates within 0.5-1.0 points of professional grades. Use it to identify your best candidates for professional grading.

What photos do I need for AI grading?

You need two clear, well-lit photos: one of the card's front and one of the back. For best results: use natural lighting or a bright white light source, photograph on a dark, non-reflective surface, ensure the entire card is visible and in focus, and avoid glare or shadows. Our grading wizard provides real-time feedback as you upload photos.

How many cards can I grade with AI?

Free tier users receive 5 AI gradings per month. Pro users get 50 gradings per month, and Ultimate users receive unlimited AI gradings. Grading credits reset on the first of each month. Check your current usage in the profile section under 'AI Usage'.

Can I share my grading reports?

Yes! Every AI grading generates a shareable certificate-style report with a unique URL. You can share this link on social media, forums, or with potential buyers. The report displays the card images, overall grade, detailed sub-grades, and AI notes in a professional format.

Digital Binders

What are digital binders?

Digital binders are customizable showcases for your card collection. Like physical binders, they let you organize and display cards in grid layouts. Unlike physical binders, you can create unlimited binders, rearrange cards instantly, and share them publicly with a link. Perfect for showcasing your collection, organizing trade binders, or creating wishlists.

How many binders can I create?

There's no limit! Create as many binders as you need to organize your collection. Popular uses include: 'For Trade' binders, 'Graded Cards' showcases, favorite Pokemon collections, complete set displays, and wishlists of cards you're seeking.

Can I customize binder layouts?

Absolutely! Choose from multiple grid layouts (3x3, 4x4, or custom), select different binder templates (classic, modern, premium), and arrange cards in any order. You can also toggle between 'Collection' mode (cards you own) and 'Wishlist' mode (cards you're seeking).

How do I share my binders?

Each binder has a 'Share' button that generates a public link. Anyone with the link can view your binder (but not edit it). Shared binders display view counts and can be embedded or linked from social media, forums, or your website. You can revoke access anytime by deleting the share link.

Marketplace

How does the marketplace work?

The FoilNest marketplace connects collectors for buying, selling, and trading Pokemon cards. Sellers create listings with photos, descriptions, prices, and condition notes. Buyers can browse, search, filter, and contact sellers directly through our messaging system. We don't handle transactions directly - buyers and sellers communicate to arrange payment and shipping.

Are there fees for selling cards?

No! FoilNest does not charge listing fees or take commission on sales. Our marketplace is completely free to use for both buyers and sellers. We make money through premium subscriptions, not marketplace fees.

How do I list a card for sale?

Navigate to your collection, find the card you want to sell, and click 'List for Sale'. You can also create marketplace listings directly from your showcase page. Add clear photos, describe the card's condition accurately, set your price, and publish the listing. Your card will appear in marketplace searches immediately.

What payment methods does FoilNest support?

FoilNest facilitates connections between buyers and sellers but does not process payments. Buyers and sellers arrange payment methods privately (PayPal, Venmo, bank transfer, etc.). We recommend using secure payment methods with buyer protection. For high-value transactions, consider using escrow services.

How do I avoid scams on the marketplace?

Always review seller profiles, ratings, and feedback before purchasing. Request additional photos if needed. Use payment methods with buyer protection (PayPal Goods & Services). Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true. Never send payment via friends/family options. For expensive cards, request grading certificates or additional authentication. Report suspicious activity to our support team immediately.

Can I trade cards instead of buying/selling?

Yes! Many collectors use the marketplace for trading. When creating a listing, you can specify if you're open to trades and list cards you're seeking. Use the messaging system to negotiate trade terms. We recommend both parties use tracked shipping and consider trade insurance for valuable cards.

Account & Security

How do I upgrade to Pro or Ultimate?

Click on your profile picture, select 'Upgrade', and choose your preferred plan. You'll be redirected to our secure payment processor. Upgrades are instant - you'll have access to premium features immediately after payment confirmation.

Is my collection data safe?

Absolutely. We use industry-standard encryption for all data transmission and storage. Your collection data is backed up daily across multiple secure servers. We never sell or share your personal information with third parties. For more details, see our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my collection data?

Yes! Pro and Ultimate users can export their entire collection as CSV or JSON files. This allows you to maintain a backup, import to spreadsheet software, or migrate to other platforms if needed. Free users can export up to 100 cards at a time.

What happens if I cancel my subscription?

Your account will remain active until the end of your billing period, then automatically downgrade to the free tier. You'll retain access to all your collection data, but some premium features (unlimited AI gradings, advanced analytics, etc.) will become unavailable. Your collection and binders are never deleted.

Community & Features

What is the leaderboard?

The leaderboard ranks collectors based on collection completion percentage, number of graded cards, marketplace activity, and community engagement. It's a fun way to see how you compare to other collectors and discover users with impressive collections.

How do achievements work?

Achievements are earned by reaching collection milestones, completing sets, grading cards, marketplace activity, and community participation. Examples include 'First Edition' (grade your first card), 'Set Master' (complete an entire set), and 'Generous Trader' (complete 10 trades). Achievements appear on your profile as badges.

Can I follow other collectors?

Yes! Follow collectors whose collections you admire or who you trade with frequently. Following someone gives you updates when they add new cards, create new binders, or list cards for sale. Build your network and discover new cards through your feed.

What is the Artist Collection feature?

Artist Collection lets you browse and collect cards by illustrator. Pokemon cards feature artwork from hundreds of talented artists worldwide. This feature helps you discover cards by your favorite artists, complete artist collections, and learn about the creators behind your favorite cards.

Technical

What devices can I use FoilNest on?

FoilNest is a web application that works on any device with a modern browser - desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. The interface is fully responsive and optimized for all screen sizes. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge for the best experience.

Is there a mobile app?

We currently offer a progressive web app (PWA) that can be installed on your phone like a native app. On iOS, tap the share button in Safari and select 'Add to Home Screen'. On Android, Chrome will prompt you to install the app. A dedicated mobile app is in development for 2025.

Why are some card images missing?

We source card images from the official Pokemon TCG API and other licensed databases. Occasionally, very new releases or promotional cards may not have images available yet. We update our database weekly. If you notice missing images, please report them via the contact form.

Can I bulk import my existing collection?

Pro and Ultimate users can bulk import collections via CSV upload. We support CSV exports from most major collection tracking apps and spreadsheets. Free users can add cards individually or upgrade to unlock bulk import. Contact support if you need help formatting your import file.
